ABOUT THE COURSE

This course provides you with an opportunity to come together in a friendly, non-judgemental space to share your experiences, connect with others and practice skills to support your ability to manage the demands of daily life, reduce stress levels and soothe the nervous system.

Each week offers a mixture of peer support through talking, psychotherapeutic education and easy, simple mindful breath and imagination/ meditation practices.

The group meets for 5 consecutive weeks. Each week is themed. The themes are built around developing a mindful approach to living with difficulty.

SESSION THEMES

Week 1: Tuning in.

This is our starting point. If we don’t know how we are feeling how can we adapt or shift it to feel better?

Week 2: Meeting difficult emotions/ feelings.

In this week we explore approaches and practices to soothe big emotions e.g. non-violent communication and understanding big emotions coming from unmet needs, the nervous system and how to use the breath to calm it or stimulate it.

Week 3: Exploring gentleness.

This week we inquire into the freedom we gain from applying gentleness to self. We explore what it means to be gentle and kind to ourselves and what impact we might expect to get from living with greater compassion towards ourselves.

Week 4: Letting things be.

Here are talk about what is in our control and what’s not. We talk about how accepting the things we can’t change reserves our energy for the things we can. We unpack the idea of acceptance and letting things be, rather than fighting them as an action and choice, rather than a passive giving up.

Week 5: A way forward.

This week is our week to consolidate. To talk about what we have learnt. To go back over the things we missed or didn’t grasp first time round. It is also a space for practice and considering how we might integrate what we know now into our lives.

STRUCTURE OF EACH SESSION

  1. Start with an arriving practice and an inquiry/ reflection on that week’s theme.

  2. Check in and share if you would like to about the theme or the practice.

  3. Receive and work through information supporting the theme.

‘What I liked most about the course was the supporting, kind, safe environment: The space to go below the surface and to have permission to do that: Being with others with similar difficulties’.
